Hi, need to submit a 250 words paper on the topic How successful have African Americans been overcoming the color line in America In your answer, be sure to address the following: Plessy vs Ferguson; Legal vs Nonviolent direct action: Gandhi; the ACMHR;MIA;SCLC;sports and civil rights, and WHY WE. Since the landmark 1896 Supreme Court decision on the Plessy versus Ferguson case, which upheld the legality of racial segregation in public places, African Americans have come a long way in overcoming the color line in the United States. Most of the actions that have significantly contributed to this have been legal and in fact, it is some of the landmark decisions made by courts, which have led to the overcoming of the color line.
Furthermore, there has been resort to nonviolent action that has also been very successful in addressing this matter. this has been done in the spirit of the teachings of Mohandas Gandhi. Such movements as the ACMHR were very active in the 1950s and 1960s civil rights movement whose aim was to achieve equal rights between all racial groups in the United States, especially for African Americans, who had carried the brunt of segregation and outright discrimination for a long time. These actions taken to gain equality in the United States have generally helped a lot in overcoming the divisions in America based on racial backgrounds and in fact, the line has become so thin that it only exists in isolated places (Brown 187).
In addition, African American sports personalities have become ambassadors for the ending of the color line because they draw fans from all across the racial boundaries that exist. It is a fact that the color line in America has or is about to be overcome because not only are African Americans rising to prominent positions in the society, but the President of the United States is an African American.
