1) They were not able to understand the need for change. The reason for this is that 3M feel that they have adequate competent and has adequate capability to manage the coming requirement with the existing setups and processes, hence they did not understand the need for change. They are not seeing any major thing that is on the way for which they are required to do the changes. They do not know that they may be required to manage changes so frequently or in a small span of time. They were thinking that they will go long with minimum change or very little changes needed for their operations. But they were required to adapt to changes quickly. Hence they were not able to understand the need of change. 2)Thought that the focus on core values would be derivative. 3M thought that the focus on core value will be derivates and the reason for this is that they thought that core values will be managed with other approaches of management and if they have better management approaches, then they will be able to achieve the core value in practice. But this was not correct.
